I picked up a 4" 500 about a month ago and finally had a chance to run a few rounds through it this week. I started out with CorBon 275 grain hollowpoints and my first impression was "this isn't bad" I think less recoil then a M29 with factory loads. Next came CorBon 400 grain hollowpoints. Much stouter! Then came some HST 350 grain hollowpoints, about the same as the 400 CorBon. All in all not really unpleasant but definitely a handful. I wouldn't want to shoot a 50 round box in one sitting.

I have no interest in anything any heavier!

I noticed that Berry's lists a 300 grain plated bullet, I would think that these with a reduced load of Unique for 900 fps or so would be a ball to shoot. Any one have any experience with this?

I know that I could just go with a smaller caliber but I just want to use the gun for range fun for the most part with the option to go full power if the need arises. I have a bunch of the HST 350 grain rounds if things get serious.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Now that's a beefy round!

Would make a great self-defense round. Haha. The sight of such a weapon would surely send a perp running.

I have a box of the 700 grain underwood's laying around for when I finally feel up to dropping them through my 6.5".

I shoot 321 and 405gr cast slugs with small doses of Trail Boss powder, THE go to powder for fun loads.

One responder used Titegroup but light loads of Titegroup have low powder densities and my experience with them is an occasional hang fire.

Never, ever an issue with Trail Boss, recommended loads fill or almost completely fill the case.

You could shoot them all day other than getting tired of the weight shooting offhand. Don
