I'm contemplating these for my newest m&p does anyone have experience either or both?
How are they for low light?
Speed on target?
Durabillity?

I've had both on Glocks, HDs on a Sig. They're very effective in low light, are very fast under 20 yards, & both held up well.
The XS sights aren't a good option for me beyond 20 yards as the big dot I had made it hard to get any decent hits beyond that range due to the sight's shallow design. The HDs are still good as far out as I care to go, although slower beyond 50 yards due to the wider U notched rear sight.
If you're looking for an easy to see, reliable, all around night sight, to me the HD is the way go. That being said, the Novak low carry night sights that come on M&Ps & the Meprolight sights with the white outline are almost as fast.

I've got Ameriglo's I-Dot Pro's on my Shield, which are essentially Trijicon HD front sight and single rear night dot - great for CQD, quick acquisition, a carry piece, etc but not the greatest for range or target. On a few other "non carry" handguns I have Trijicon Bright & Toughs which are great all around night sights. The Big Dot, XS, and maybe even the Trijicon HD front can be rather large at longer distances, as already mentioned.

I see a lot of guys with... worsening eyesight, or bi-focal users (of which I am one of) seem to like the Big Dot, XS, and similar setups, so I may try one eventually ;)

Get the Trijicon HD's. I had the standard Trijicon night sights and I have shot a gun with the Big Dots. My M&P45 has the TFOs and my M&P9 Pro, M&P9C, M&P Shield 9, and my wife's Glock all have the Trijicon HD's. Hands down the HD's are the best sights. They are perfect for daylight, low light, and no light. Front sight acquisition is very quick and easy with the colored front dot and blacked out rear sight in daylight and low light. In no light you have the three tritium dots with the extra added bonus of charging the colored front sight. The HD's are worth every penny.

I have both and if you can find the Trijicon HD's for your gun I'd go with those. The Big Dot's are Ok if you can't find HD's. The Big Dot washes out targets at greater distances, whereas the HD's don't.

I have the Trigicon HDs, yellow front, blackout rear (green at night).

I've heard for those with slight color blind (me) and / or aging eyes (me, again) the Yellow really stands out. They really really do.

My only complaint about the HDs is there are large gaps on either side of the front post when lining the sights up. This makes it exceedingly difficult to accurately shoot at long distances. You really need to focus on making sure the gaps are equally spaced while focussing on everything else. Other than that, they're fantastic. 15 yards and less- you can shoot fast with both eyes open. Just place that big ol' orange (or yellow) dot on target and you're on the money. I've had them on both my M&Ps.

The Trijicon HD's are definitely combat accurate but not target accurate. I guess it depends on how you want to use your gun. A lot of target shooting, go with the Trijicon Bright & Tuff. Carry gun with very little target shooting then the HD's are a good option.

What Kollin said + they are terrific for IDPA, 3-Gun, etc. Very fast & accurate.

Hi guys. New kid here. I'm just contemplating an M&P 45C and came here to study first. End of off-topic.

I have Trijicon HD's on a Springfield XDM-45 4.5" for 2.5 years now, and I've never had an opportunity to actually shoot in low light, as our nearby indoor ranges are lighted and outdoor ranges close long before dark. Has anyone here fired their pistol in low light with Trijicon or any brand of night sights? I just wonder if the muzzle flash makes them useless after the first shot.

P.S. I'll be back later to ask about my referenced considered M&P purchase.

i have the XS big dots on my m&p 45 (duty pistol) and my Glock 30 (off duty pistol). in my experience, the big dots are quick on target and can be seen well @ night. i have not shot the HD's but i have no complaints thus far with the big dots.
