This revolver originally shipped with walnut stocks, being 1914, likely with medallions.

Of course, there were no factory N frame mother of pearl stocks.

The factory letter states the stocks were checkered walnut gold medallion stocks.

So, keep the mother of pearl stocks, which look attractive, on this Triple Lock revolver or return to its original configuration?

I don't know if this makes a difference, but from this thread from September 2007 it at least suggests that the mother of pearl stocks might have been added after September of 2007.

Triple Lock-Engraved

Nice triple lock.

You won't be getting the original walnut grips but it would still be nice to have the original type stocks that the gun came with, if you don't mind a cost of $200 give or take $50. Then you'd have both or sell the pearls to defray the cost of walnut stocks. Since it's confirmed to be factory engraved, I'd want it to be in original configuration with walnut medallion grips.

I have at least half a dozen pairs, maybe close to a dozen pairs, with medallions, so acquiring the appropriate pair isn't a concern.

Why not both. This old gun shipped in 1916 with checkered diamond square butt walnut grips with gold S&W medallions. When I got it it had MOP grips.
I acquired a set of correct grips, but like to occasionally display it with the MOP.

Beautiful TL!!! I agree with Jeff - get both and wear the ones that suit your mood on any particular day. That said, I personally am not a huge MOP fan, so I would probably go with a set of the factory wood grips, but either set of grips will look great on that gun. AND if you could get a set of factory ivories, like the ones on Bruce's TL - that would be the icing on the cake.:D

I should mention, as for when firing this revolver, NEVER mother of pearl, use N frame pre war stocks with medallions for that.
