Hi! I'm going to Branson, in a few weeks. I hope to go trout fishing, while the wife shops. Any of you fish along Lake Taneycomo? Most of the business claim good fishing, most of the time; BUT, they are the ones renting the boats. What's the fishing really like, along the Branson area of the lake?
Also, from your experience, can you name a great place to have an evening meal. I tend not to just trust Tripadvisor, reports thanks for your help! Mikey

My sister used to live in Rockaway Beach on Taneycomo and my brother-in-law ran the Backdoor pub on the lake and you could see huge trout in the lake but I dont know about the fishing, Taneycomo water comes right out of the the bottom of Tablerock dam and the water is very cold. Good luck, its very nice in that area. Jeff

It's been a few years, but try and get up as close to the dam as possible. You can do some wading within 2-3 miles below the dam. When you hear the horn blow GET OUT OF THE WATER. They are letting water through the dam, and it will raise the water level several feet real quick. It's not impossible to catch 5-6 lb. rainbows. More than about 2-3 miles below the dam you'll need a boat.

just got back from a week there. miserable luck in Lake Taneycomo, both at the dam and at Cripple Creek park. But had lots of fish caught at Roaring River State park, an hour away. Also had good luck at Dogwood Canyon Recreation Park. Best meal is at Landry's Cajun Seafood restaurant (next door to Presley's theater on the main drive.

therealsuperdave nailed it. Roaring River is great. You can walk up to the cave entrance where the water for the vast trout hatchery is emitted. 60 years ago you could take a path that is up from the cave entrance and stream. The only real change is now there is a hand rail between you and certain dampness.

Caught a few fishing at the public dock at Cooper Creek Park: On the north side of the lake. Take HWY 76 to Fall Creek road, west to Cooper Creek road south to the park. A two lane concrete ramp and parking for approximately 40 rigs. This area offers; fishing dock and restrooms. Fast current required heavy weights on bottom rigs. Used corn flavored trout putty.

Thanks for the fishing info in Branson area. I looked at Cooper Creek Campground on the net, and might stay there. Also thanks for the heads up on Landry Cajun Seafood. I appreciate the advice. Mikey

I don't know how close you'll be to Bennett Springs State park, but good trout
fishing there. If it's close worth a drive.
