Trout Flies Unavailable - What???

This time of year is trout season in SW Virginia. Even though cool and rainy and rivers running full decided to go anyway. Caught 5 trout and several early season smallmouth. During the course of the morning lost a couple of streamers. We have an Orvis Store in our city but closed due to corona. I needed to replace as I have only one of that pattern left. It is a good producer of big trout.
Went to Orvis website to order. All flies were unavailable!! Did their online chat. The rep. said their supplier was shut down due to staff shortages but expected to be back shipping in a week.

No idea that shutdown would affect that. Will have to stock up or learn to tie my own

Did you try LL Bean, they used to buy from a lot of local tiers
I always tied my own.

On the Fly

Which Streamer are you using? Sounds interesting for use on
our Creek Runs Through It.

Our Creeks are running Full and Dangerous, and the Weather
has been too unpredictable; Cold, Nice, Windy, Rain, and Hail.

I'm a fair weather Fly Fisherman, I go for the enjoyment
not punishment.

I believe a lot of flies come from Asia, specifically from Thailand where the mostly women are paid a few cents each to tie them. Maybe that's the reason they're not coming in.

I tie flies and streamers are pretty easy to tie, generally. You might find a local tier, but I don't know how you'd get in touch with them.

More expensive. At material costs I don't see how a tier can make a living tying them. What is the pattern you're looking for?
 
I started tying over 40 years ago. Two of my sons took up tying and, I must admit, they tie much, much better than I ever did. Now that I wear tri-focals, have had a torn and detached retina, and will be going in for cataract surgery soon, I have found that whenever I need some flies tied, they're just a phone call away.:D

Seriously, though, they don't complain. As they explained to me, I supplied them with flies when they were growing up and going through the stage when they'd break off flies on practically every back cast. They claim they're just paying me back for being patient with them.:)

Which reminds me...my youngest son and one of my grandsons will be coming up early tomorrow morning to do a little fly fishing with me. Wish us luck.

The Orvis conehead Bunny Muddler. Black seems to work best but also white and olive. They have it in Brown also. Black is my go to color. Brook trout seem to especially like that color.

Also their conehead wooly bugger in black. It has some green flash tied in the pattern.

Lately I have also been fishing a black wooly bugger with a small copper John nymph tied 18" behind. Sometimes they will take the nymph and sometimes the bugger. Try it.
