I replaced an old two stroke with a 4 stroke troybilt. It's heavy but the bad thing is that the engine burned the snot out of me today. The plastic housing was so hot I couldn't touch it-I never had that problem with the two stroke troy bilt. Is this a problem with the 4 strokes or what? I'm taking it back as I got tired of trying to use it while at the same time keep the engine from burning my forearm where it brushes against the engine when I hold the trigger down. Any other suggestions-I have two expensive attachments (one a little chain saw) that I had bought for the two stroke troy bilt and I would really like to get a unit that these would fit, otherwise that's two hundred dollars down the shute if they can't fit the new mchine.
I NEVER had the heat problem with any two strokes before.

My four stroke used to do the same thing. It took me a while to figure out a different way to hold it so it would not burn me. After that is has been the best trimmer ever.

I've got the same machine. You're not using the shoulder strap are you? Don't. I've had it for 3 years, wore one bump head clean through. It is heavy but having one gas can is worth it. The hedge trimmer cuts through palm leaves, branches, anything that will fit in its' teeth. Don't give up on it, you're just about done with the "hazing." Joe

Caj, it didn't burn your "preach to the jury" arm, did it? If so, I see a
good LPLA claim and LOE claim since the 4-stroke did not have a thermal guard.

For those unfamilar with courtrooms in south Louisiana, such as in Franklin, New Iberia, Cameron, Jennings, Crowley, Ville Platte and environs, there are often days like today -- mercury topped out at 100 degrees today. In late afternoons, giving closing arguments, judges let lawyers take their coats off and roll up their shirt sleeves (a la "To Kill A Mockingbird") to make closing arguments to the jury. All Cajuns talk with their hands to some degree in making a point. I'm right-handed so I point to the evidentiary exhibits with my right hand and punctuate my closing with my right arm. And I'm not actually Cajun (kind of swamp-Irish as they say in Cameron). But Caj, he's probably "multi-dexterous" as they say (unless he's like the left-handed Roman general Lucius Scaevola) -- and you got to be able to "talk" to the jury with your hands and arms in St Mary parish.

Caj, I have that same trimmer and have never had that problem. I only trim around the base of the house and the back yard fence so maybe it doesn't have a chance to get that hot. Love the edger attachment and not mixing gas and oil. And it starts with a pull or two. Hope you get yours running right.

Mine was only running for about 15 minutes-I've never had one get that hot before. Probably gonna take it back.
