Just returned from our latest adventure in the 24' Class C motorhome. We did our third annual gold country round trip to my friends property just north of Nevada City/Grass Valley. Northern California remains bone dry and the Butte and Lake fires have been a disaster. We watched the air tankers fly over multiple times a day.
The weather was awesome and once again we pulled a little gold out of the creek that runs through my friends property. A couple of rounds of golf, lots of pool and creek time and some quality motorcycle rides (yep, hauled the BMW on the utility trailer for the entire trip), my favorite being up to Downieville rounded out our two weeks up there.

On the ride home down 395 along the eastern Sierra Nevada's we diverted east on 136/190 just south of Lone Pine to tour Death Valley. The forecast said the highs would be 82 but by 1030 it was well north of 100. The drop down to and the subsequent climb up and out from Panamint Springs was some of the wildest, steepest and hottest roads we have ever encountered.
Ended up at Pahrump at the Lakeside Casino for a night before heading down to Buckskin Mountain State Park on the Colorado River just below the Parker dam. Temps in the high 90's but the river was a very pleasant 81 degrees, cold beer, a light breeze and multiple dips in the river kept it quite pleasant.
Staying there made for an easy 300 mile run home. We logged 2,100 miles bringing our total to just over 28,000 over the last 25 months. Nope, did not buy the coach to sit in storage. Hoping for at least one more mountain trip before winter sets in as the Aspens are beginning to turn but anything over 4,000' will soon be closed for the season. Just about time to head for the lower elevations of the high Sonoran Desert.
