Opening day for me is 1 week from today and I'm all excited.
Opening day in TN was last Saturday but, conflicts keep me from hunting. Went this morning but, it was 37 degrees and not a peep (gobble) was heard.
Saw one about 400 yards away. Called for air support but, the misty rain/snow mix had everything grounded.
Tomorrow is another day and it is supposed to warm up to the low 40's!
I bow hunt them. It’s a blast. Will hunt Mn and sodak as I often do. I have arrowed 1-3 per year for about 20 years in a row.
If you are in to archery, try it.
because of a few procedures the last 2 years, iv'e have not hunted/ harvested any game. restricted from even going bass/ musky fishing. i think our turkey season started the 1st. of the month. leaving to the dentist at 7:30 am the other am monday, spotted 17 turkey, the 4 long beards, jakes and seveal hens together down on the corner lot feeding. i'm thinking of useing the wifes 410 down the coldersac, the 3 1/2" 12 ga. i will let set i wouldn't take a shot over 15 yds. when the 4 beards would walk down the street in the morning during the summer, i would hold my stomach binder and a weird cough would come out, they would stop and gobble at me, i'd cough, and they would gobble. so for the turkey hunters that have their shotgun aimed at a turkeys head, try the stomach cough and see if it stops. when i sold that H&R 10 ga./ 36" inch barrel, wished i kept it, other day found a box of 10 ga. 3 1/2" copper turkey shells checking the ammo. knowing there are members that have restrictions on the forum, we all want to pick a rifle, shotgun or a fishing rod, some of my best naps have been in the woods hunting. once, sitting on the ground, maybe 1/2 way up a hill, perfect point of 3 hollows coming together, i woke up, legs crossed, shoulders on the ground, shoulders asleep, couldn't move, but my 1st. concern was checking the hollow below me, took a while to sit up, arms still asleep, couldn't pick up the 35 if i had to. hope this put a smile on a few faces of past hunts. didn't think it would be so LSS. everyone have a good weekend. take care. glad i get to read the members threads and replys.
Guided my 81-year-old father to his first turkey yesterday. Watched a bunch of hens fly into the decoys. Big ol' gobbler strutted in, beat the snot out of my gobbler decoy, then mated one of my hen decoys before dad closed the deal.
