the old fashion way .... :D

I've been supplementing my gun fund this summer helping a farmer friend out. This past week I've been mowing pasture. Yesterday I stopped to get a couple of pictures of prime rib in the making. And to realize how blessed I am to have grown up on a farm and to be able to retire and still be connected to the land.

Just watched "Soylent Green" the other night. Won't catch me eating any fake meat products. Don't have any cows but never a shortage of these things. It's so dry here, they are almost coming in the house. I purposely didn't mow the lower part of our yard so they would stay down there away from the house. This one came up while we were eating dinner..

In the 1960's Grandpa had a dairy farm, about 60 milking head. But across the road past the two bean /corn fields was a valley with 100 year old oaks and hickories. In this Ohio savanna the grass was usually 12 to 16 inches tall, This is where about 80 Angus roamed. There were two salt lick sheds about 400 yards apart, with a winding stream to wet the most thirsty steer! All the beef of my youth walked that woods, often with me chasing it! Oh, I long for those time on gramps farm!
