Year ago, they started some real improvements to the Twin Ponds rifle range near Awendaw, SC, ran out of money and it's been closed since. I got a call today from a nice lady at the DNR who was happy to tell me that after a short ceremony Friday, April 6th at 10 AM, there will be a ceremony to re-open the range.

I suppose now they will close Boggy Head rifle range that is up the road on Highway 41, and start working on it. IT SURE NEEDS IT. Whoever planned that last batch of 'improvements' ruined the place.

A friend of mine in the Beaufort area showed me a picture of their state rifle range that was unbelievable. Beautifully set up with separate ranges for everything. I was wondering, "What did they do to rate all that?" Maybe it just took a while to get here, but I'm glad to see something positive happening.

Glad your getting some good use of taxpayer dollars down your way. Coming from NY, where everything costs, the completely free to use, staffed SCDNR Pickens range is wonderful. Covered rifle, pistol, shotgun-clays, and archery ranges plus dove hunting fields. Free use of spotting scopes, Lead-sleds, and clays throwers.
