I stopped in at the Cabelas in Dundee and saw some interesting S&Ws in their Gun Library. There were several appropriate to this Forum: two nickel M27-2s and a blued "Combat Master".

Nickel is not my thing so I passed on these two. Both are 6" nickel M27-2s in presentation cases with tools. The first is priced at $1149.99 and looks pretty nice through the glass:
Gun Library: Smith & Wesson Model 27-2 .357 MAG : Cabela's

Here's the other one, priced at $1129.99:

They also had one marked "Combat Master" that I assume is a pre-15 (?) wearing Pachs for $599.99. I did not look closely at this one at all and it is not described on their website so you may want to go see this one in person.

The only employee in the Gun Library was busy on the phone with a transfer. I was not a serious buyer, so I did not examine them other than peering at them through the display case.

I mention these here because I thought that one of you may want to stop by and have a look or have it shipped to your local Cabelas.

The combat master I believe is a k38 combat masterpiece 38 special a sweet piece. The two m27-2 are really nice guns in nickel. It's time to grab that nickel too. Buy all three? @ $599 that's a good buy on the CM.

I liked the $1149.99 M27-2 looks a little better than the slightly cheaper one. The former had a satin nickel look. The latter was a lot shinier, making me wonder if it had been polished heavily or possibly if it had been refinished. Both had presentation boxes and tools. Both had the 3 Ts, except the cheaper one had smooth football targets as apposed to the pricier one which had checkered football targets.

With all the gushing we do over the M28, I think we tend to forget that the M27 was the top of the line in its day. M28 prices are nearing M27 levels. All other things being equal, I would certainly choose the M27.

If I wanted another M27-2, I would have sure taken a closer look at these. Considering the extras, I thought that for once Cabelas got the price about right.
