UH-OHHH ANOTHER FLORIDA HURRICANE PROBABLY COMING THIS WEEK

My Fidelity guy moved from Columbus OH to Ft Myers in 2019. He had an office in Naples. It was his dream, being a boating enthusiast, to have a boat dock out to the gulf.

Then came the hurricane Ian and he was wiped out, but rebuilt. Due to shoddy repairs he had big mould issues and had to get that taken care of.

Disillusioned and stunned, he put his house on the market and decided to tour the world with his travel agent wife, and figure out what to do.
I saw the house was pending a sale just before the latest hurricane brushed the coast. This one looks like it’s going to pass right over his house again.
He just sold on 9/30/24

We'll get wet, no doubt. I did the yardwork this morning, the ground is saturated. My house is the highest in the subdivision, 78.25' above MSL. Those at 70' are required to have flood insurance to get homeowners so there's that. All the homes drain into the central "lake" (retention pond with a massive aerater near the center) and it's up a foot but still much capacity. I have removed trees, plants and objects as much as the HOA allows. Still got supplies from the last time so no need to wade into the "grocery madness" which is in full swing, again. My big gripe; I'm waiting for the "cool dry" 6 months so I can shoot outdoors in shorts and a tee middle of January. I've fired exactly 120 rds .22's and a box 9mm since Memorial day. Joe

I always check out Mikes Weather Page on YT, FB, or TickToc.

He said my area could get 10 to 12" of rain here on the east coast. I've not had any rain since around Sept 15th. Ground is nice and dry.

Tampa might take another beating thou.

Looks like it is aimed right at us here in the Tampa Bay area. Like we need more of this stuff! Luckily, I'm 25+ miles inland, so storm surge is no issue for me. On the other hand, a heavy rain leaves standing water in my backyard, so I'm guessing I might as well move my boat off the trailer and let it float in the yard this week!

Luckily, we have two hospitals, both less than 1.5 miles from our house. Since they were built, we've had far, FAR less power outages than we used to have. So I'm hoping that (other than turning our backyard into a swamp) this will be no more of a problem than Helene was.

The weather has really changed. I hope Milton doesn't do any bad damage in Florida.

Illinois normally gets 50 tornadoes every year. This year we have had 124 tornadoes.

Yet another reason i fled Miami 20 years ago. We go tired of living in the red cone. Shutters up for months. And then donating several cans of beef stew and chile to the local food bank!

Yep, the weather this year has been bonkers. Here in Vegas we have smashed a slew of heat records going back to 1947.

We hit 120°F in July, up from a previous all time high of 117°F.
We just had our 112th day in one year with a temperature over 100°F, the 113th might be tomorrow, and the previous record was 100 days.
Should tomorrow reach 100°F, that would mean we are well past the previous latest date of 4 October.
We also smashed records for most consecutive days over 115°F, 110°F, and I suspect 100°F.
Oh, and it has been over 80 days without rain, and there is none in sight any day soon.
Worse, the local water company put us back to 3-days a week watering, but they forgot to tell the weather gods.

Even more worrying, 10 of the hottest Septembers have occurred in the last 15 years. I can vouch for this. The first few years after my arrival in '97 September and October weather was wonderful, high 80s into the low 90s with few storms blowing through. About 2010 we started getting early September heatwaves followed by short cold storms with LOTS of wind. This year, the summer saw no reason to quit just because of what our calendars said.

Just looked at the latest predictions. Seems that Milton will come ashore on Tuesday night. If there is one thing worse than a hurricane, it has to be a hurricane in the dark. I know when I was in Texas one night with tornadoes all around it was a bit botty clenching couple of hours.
