In spite of a storm of protests by citizens and spurning by previous administrations, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will sign this monstrous "Arms Trade Treaty" on July 27.

A comprehensive analysis by Dick Morris of how this will affect us can be seen here. Be sure to see this. Gird your loins.

Isn't this meaningless until ratified by the Senate? I believe we signed Kyoto also, but never ratified it.

Listen to Dick Morris' analysis; the link is in the OP. Even NOT ratified, it can be leveraged. Obama is seeking to get a Senate vote on it BEFORE the November election; there's a chance the Republicans can assume control of the Senate after then.

Even if he gets the ratification vote before November there is absolutely no way he can get 67 votes.

I absolutely hope you're right. But right now the Dems have a lock grip on the Senate; Obama, Hillary and Harry Reid will push it for all they're worth. I suspect the Dems will all fall into place, and there may be some renegade RINO Republicans that will go along with it.

No matter what, write your Senators and make it clear how you feel on this.

I have been hearing more and more about the treaty recently, and I do believe it is something to be concerned about.

The NRA had a membership drive special on television a few nights ago, and the treaty was the topic of discussion.

Barry and Hillary can hope for it, but they can't make it happen. It would require a 2/3rds vote of the Senate. Right now, even with the Democrats in control of that chamber, there are more pro-gun Senators than anti-gun. It's just going to get better after the election.

I read somewhere that Bill Clinton signed a South American Small Arms Treaty and that it was never ratified by the Senate.

So hopefully if signed, this one will end the same way.

Obama To Sign Anti-Second Amendment U.N. Gun

It says the Arms Trade Treaty transcends borders and may trample our Constitutional right to bear arms. There's every indication the president will sign it.

I wouldn't sit back and feel secure this won't pass. If the president wants this passed, he'll find a way to do it.

Telling our public representatives how we feel about it is an important step, particularly our Demo reps who need convincing.

Either 57 or 58 Senators have signed a letter saying they'll vote against it. Right now they barely have 1/3rd of the Senate, much less 2/3rds. Obama may try, but I don't see him doing that right before the election. He's been very careful to avoid the gun issue.

Honestly there's an even better reason to vote this thing down than the 2nd Amendment. The whole treaty is concocted to limit US options for supporting nations like Taiwan or helping rebels like we did in Libya. It would limit arms sales to only being between UN nations. Taiwan isn't, the Libyan rebels aren't, the Northern Alliance we armed during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan weren't.

It's a way to entrench existing regimes and limit the ability of the US and others to help their enemies. It's a treaty without a single redeeming value that I can see, and the 2nd Amendment issues are icing on a very bad tasting cake.

Oh, and this week Iran was put on the committee working on the treaty. A week after being found guilty by the Security Council of providing arms to Syria to repress their rebellion. All kind of makes sense once you see what the treaty really does.

I just don't see it passing with any of those issues in it. I honestly don't know what it's supposed to do that actually helps us in any way.

Well after reading this thread I have decided I will vote. I had planned to stay home, since the rest of the country don't seem to like Texas candidates. I have read Dick Morris's comments,
but can President Obama sign the treaty during a time when congress is not in session, and make it effective? I am a single issue voter when it comes to my gun rights, and whoever from the UN or anywhere else decides to strip away my rights under the 2nd ammendment can have my guns, bullets first whenever they come to take them.:)

Who owns this country anymore?!!! The people in leadership seem to think our role is to work hard, pay increasing taxes and then shut up and stay out of the way. Has anyone been asked what they thought of such a treaty by someone in a leadership role? I know we are a republic but I feel like this is getting out of control. Is there some one in a government role that really wants to listen to the American public?

The Politicritters are paying attention to the NRA like never before. Even the libs concede they are an immovable block. They all know that to vote for this monstrosity will be remembered on election day should a vote happen before then. I ain't worried, yet. Joe

It is obvious that the enemies of freedom and decency have been firmly entrenched within our own govt. This latest scheme against the Constitution may actually be of benefit in the next election. The leftists have had their *** handed to them in the past on gun control. This current scheme could backfire on them this November. Even RINO trash like Romney would be an absolute breath of fresh air after the likes of hussien. Either way, this latest piece of UN **** will not be ratified by the US Senate.

The President can sign a treaty at any time, and Obama (if he really is legally "the President") is poised to do just that. However, before the treaty has the force of law in this country, it must be ratified by 2/3 of the Senate, or 67 members. It is believed by many Constitutional scholars that a ratified treaty takes precedence over the Constitution - that would be something the Supreme Court may ultimately decide. As you know, the President appoints the justices to the SC, and one more left-leaning liberal on the Court could kick the Second Amendment into the dust bin. Just one more reason for you to vote in this next election. I hope you will register right away.

Anymore???

With the exception of a brief time between 1947 and say, 1961, it's always been that way...

America was bought and paid for by corporate interests and the wealthy elite decades ago...

The only truth I've heard in the last few years has been "We're going to fundamentally change America".

No thanks.

I like America and the Constitution just fine the way it is.
