My Daughter bought me my first Seiko, she was going to school in Boston and working part time at Sears, when Sears first started selling Seiko's the Seiko people came in and set up a big display and marked all the watches half price and my Daughter got the employee discount and back then Sears had super Saturday specials so she got another discount, one more discount and they would have had to pay her to take the watch, I wore that watch for 20 years with no problems, then it needed a cleaning, I took it to a local watch guy and he wanted a 100 bucks to clean it, I said to heck with that, I had a 14K gold watch that I got from the company I worked for, but I hate gold watches, for my birthday one of my son's got me a Seiko Titanium and my wife took the old watch and had it cleaned, now I have two.:D Good luck with the watch, I'm sure you will love it, I only touch mine twice a year, when we turn the clock's.

Nice watch. I prefer nylon or leather.

When you said "metal stretchy bands" I had a flash back.

Remember the Twist-O-Flex by Speidel? :D:D:D

Oh, The wood watch is really cool.

Happy New Year.

I was thinking of the Twist-O-Flex:

The wood watch is cool but I'm half afraid to wear it. It seems kinda delicate.

When I got a job promotion, my wife bought me a Seiko Kinetic. That was nearly 17 years ago (how time flies!). The only problem I had with it was the battery they used later became known for dying premature deaths. I don't remember exactly how long mine lasted, but I sent it to a watch repairman who replaced the battery either with a newer type or a capacitor (I don't remember which) and I've not had a problem since.

I may have told this story before, but what the heck. Decades ago, I had a job that made using a 24 hour clock easier. It just so happened Seiko had one, and as most people didn't like that style of watch, other than military types, it was cheap (for a Seiko), so I bought one. A couple years later, the battery went dead, and the back required a special tool for removal, so I stopped at my local Sears watch department, where they would install batteries for free. It was early afternoon when I handed the watch to the young lady behind the counter. She readily removed the back, popped in a new battery and replaced the back. Then she started to reset it for me. I knew instantly what was going on when she got a strange look on her face. "Never saw 13 o'clock before?" I asked. I laughed and said it was OK. She thought she had screwed up something. :)

My wife bought me a Seiko chronograph in 1996 for my birthday, I'm wearing it now as a matter of fact. I remember it costs the unheard of price of $110.00 over 20 years ago and has been my favorite watch.

Good choice..... as I said in your other thread.... 2 Seiko automatic's in the form of their Dive watches have served me well since about 1990.

My weekend watch has a NATO nylon band..... why it's called a NATO band I have no idea.

Snubby, very nice timepiece.

I unboxed mine in 1988 and she is still "Right On"

I got curious this morning and did some looking. Seems as good an explanation as any:

Great-looking watch my friend. A few weeks ago-I bought another Timex Expedition--which is leagues better than my last Timex. The advertisement claimes this battery will last till I turn 60--which is just over 10 years from now. Im not sure what the wrist band is made of? either cheap lleather or plastic. I will be using my dead watch's leather band with velcrow on it. This one has the holes and finger--and with my shakes=very difficult to get in -place.

I have a similar problem with buckle wrist bands. I wear my watch on my left wrist and havta work the strap with my right hand.
That's the hand that doesn't work so well anymore.

I hAve '68 Seiko Divers automatic. Served me well my time in the USMC. Continued diving all over the world up to 150 ft bounce dives and just had it rebuilt last year by Seiko. No seals available so it's no longer waterproof. Retired it to the safe. Don't remember the trade to a USN diver for the watch, but this is the model Charlie Sheen wore in Apocylpse Now. Market for them is north of $1300 if you can find that model for sale. Too many memories with mine, both good and bad!
