I have a new model 438 and keep getting the urge to trade it and get a 442. Should I or shouldn't I? I have not shot the 438 but other than the slight difference in the hammer configuration I don't know why I wouldn't just go with the 438.
I have a whole mess of Centennials but really like my Bodyguard 38-2 also. That 438 is a nice gun. Might as well keep it and save up for a (no-lock) 442.
I have five centennials and sixteen Bodyguards. My carry guns are a M649 and M38-2. The Centennials and the Bodyguards shoot very well, however, I just love the little humpbacks. FWIW
As much as I love the Centennials, I've been getting the urge to get a Bodyguard (the real one), especially if I can get my hands on a DAO 649-2 for a decent price once I have some gun-buying money set aside (hopefully early next year...*fingers crossed*). If I were you, I'd keep the 438 so long as it works for you and save up for a 442, especially considering how inexpensive they are nowadays.
You know I had a 638 once. I got it in a trade, and I had been dying for a J frame but I really wanted a 642, but after a while I found I loved that little humpback and I wouldn't trade you a bucket full of 642's for it. I would say keep it because it will be one you regret selling.
I am going to go tomorrow and purchase an older Airweight 438 for $300. I like the idea of being able to take aimed SA shots if I want to. I think it will compliment my 640 and be a bit lighter as well. I also think that $300 out-the-door is a good price on an older practically never fired pre-lock J-Frame of any kind.
I have had the thing in my hands two or three times looking at it. One of my table-buddies at a recent gun-show ran the man down that had it in his hand before I did. I think I know what my buddy paid for it and I hate to see him make a dime off me, but....I guess I will cave-in and give him his $300. What is money among friends....I guess.
I'll just have to swallow my pride if $300 is a good price.
Well....what can I say. When you're old, almost blind and stupid....you get what you pay for if your memory goes along with your eyesight. I went to get what I thought was a Model 438 and it was a Model 38....MORE BETTER as for as I am concerned.
