Hey guys, I've snooped around here a bit and seen some very interesting knives, but I have one that I haven't seen here.
It looks like a large, wide-bladed folder, but it opens in an unusual way. The knife is very flat with brown plastic scales that look almost like wood. It has a hinge pin in the usual location, but rather than the blade just swinging up on that pin, one side of the handle pivots up. When it is at 180 degrees from its starting point (basically in the position of an open blade), it picks up the blade and as the handle is rotated on around to complete it's 360 degree rotation it takes the blade with it, leaving it in the open position.
If I could find the thing I'd post pictures, but I've stuck it away somewhere and can't find it since the move to AZ.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? It's not easy to explain without pictures.

Sounds like a Barry Wood Folder ( Do a search of Barry Wood Knives ) Colt also sold one using his patents - There may be others.

Barry Wood folder

It is a Barry Wood or a copy. They were made in Venice,
California. For a short while copies were being made in Italy. Wood's first was a Model 1 he produced them for Colt Firearms for a while.
Those knives had Colt insignia on the blades they had handles of Brown/Maroon scales. Nice knives and well made. He made many different models all around the same unique system.

Jeff, probably the reason you haven't seen it here, is that it's not a Smith & Wesson knife. As said above, I think you are describing a Barry Wood pattern knife. Ed.

Colt Knife

Yeah, I found the knife today and that S&W had somehow morphed into a rearing pony... Imagine that.
The one I have is identical to the first picture above.
I could have sworn this was a S&W labeled knife. Oh well.
I know I have other S&W stuff that doesn't have horsies on it and I'll post something about that stuff down the road.
Thanks for the replies.
Jeff
