I worked up 40 rounds for the M57 and 58 using the 800X. It was a moderate load from the Hornady manual running right about 1100 fps. It was lively but not abusive. I didn't take the 58 because of time limitations. I don't get in a hurry at the range and I needed to work with two pistols as well as the 57. It proved to be an accurate load. I want to spend another session with it but I'm pleased so far. I may back it off just a little for range work and see what the accuracy looks like.

As an aside, the action on the 57 is unbelievably smooth. The trigger breaks beautifully but the serrations are too sharp.

Yes, 800X is an excellent powder for many different cartridges, but I tend to avoid it for bulk loading due to its dangerously inconsistent metering through powder measures. When I do use it I weigh each and every charge.

the flammable Frisbee powder.:D

It has worked for me in medium to maximum loads and seems clean enough for me, with good accuracy with many different weights and types of bullets, jacket or lead...............

I just noticed that it does have a pretty "Sharp" recoil than some of the other powders.

One of my most accurate 686 6" 38 Special 125 +P loads was with 800x at 1050 fps..................but I advise you, not to try it in a Steel J frame.

As mentioned, with max loads, I do hand weigh each load and eye ball the cases before setting the bullets, with this powder............
If you want high velocity in your loads, this is the IMR powder to use in the BIG cases................ ( never tried PB )

It is a challenge to the powder measure. I'm weighing every charge. I have a target in the car that looks very much like Davwingman's. I'll get a photo to post if I can. The recoil is sharp enough that I don't want to shoot it in my Blackhawk and put up with the knuckle bruising. I want to see how this load is in the M58 with the Jordan Trooper grips. I shot some Underwood 1350 fps loads in it and it handled them very well.

Flaming frisbees , I like that VB !!!

It is a large flaked but very good powder in the medium to large straight walled handgun cartridges ,another is HERCO & they`re very close in the burn chart .

For my IMR800x & HERCO I`ve added 1/2 teaspoon of powdered graphite/# & mix well . I use Lee`s auto disc(medium to large cavity size ,the number is not in gray matter at the moment) & use a solid bump on the press handle to shake it all & get fairly consistent throws .

But as mentioned, when upper end or max loadings are in play I weigh each load.

Ps: I treat all my powder measures with powdered graphite !

Hope this helps if even a little .
