Is your m&p accurate enough now fired from a rest of course , and try different good ammo weights ?
If it is accurate enough then you can have the barrel and slide Mag-N1- Ported for a cost of 167.50 plus shipping the slide and barrel to them. This the same style used today by s&w on some of the M&P PC models like my sku: 11825
M&P dresses up the slide with extra un-needed holes .
Some first gen 9mm pistols shot rather well and some fired more of a shotgun pattern ! ha . We have one I fitted a apex gunsmith barrel to but semi fit can be found too . My old 40sw a good one like my new 5" pc 40sw .

If by slotted you mean ported, I don't think so.
KKM makes barrels for the 5" CORE but they are not ported.

I have a ported barrel on my un-fired MP-2 Performance Series, 5 inch. I'd like a non-ported barrel. Not sure which non current model you have.
IF your looking to carry that 5" M&P check out Comp-Tac Infidel Ultra Max holster . Its made for a 4.5" barrel but with the "slip " lower edge the 5" indeed slips thru smoothly . I used a couple of there holsters for up to 18 years with an old Neutral and a newer MTAC but I think I have real good one with the Infidel Ultra Max and I wear this at 3:00 position and it's cant adjustable and will fit over a belt loop as I wear mine - Infidel Ultra Max
