I've had a PC since the mid-80s. Early on, I bought my first UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) because we had them for the mainframes I worked on. It was an IBM branded unit and it had a switch to disable the alarm.

Time passed, that unit became too small so I bought an APC unit. No way to disable the alarm. Really? I called APC and they said, "Oh, all you have to do is turn the unit off" Really? Turning off the battery kinda defeats its purpose.

In a home setting, I don't need an alarm. I know that power has failed because my lights have gone out.

I did solve the problem by opening the case and unsoldering the beeper. However, I rather find one with a simple disable alarm switch.

Anyone know of a UPS with a switch to disable the alarm?

I just wanted to comment I don't understand why so many things are designed to "beep". My dog gets scared with most of them.

Found the APC brand didn't last long, and when battery was replaced then the entire unit failed not long after.
Switched to CyberPower power factor correcting pure sine wave 1500va units and been quite satisfied.

CP1500PFCLCD - PFC Sinewave UPS Series - Product Details, Specs, Downloads | CyberPower

This unit comes with software driven alert settings as well as a physical mute button.

quite frankly, I like the voided warranty approach taken.
Our world might be made better by having more of us willing to face the thunder inside the box.

I also use APC Power Back Up devices. If I understand the OP correctly, APC units are shipped with the "PowerChute Personal Edition" software application. This software provides configuration options plus other features.

PowerChute Personal Edition v3.1.0 for Windows Software - Released | APC by Schneider Electric

There are three sections in the application a) "Monitor System", b) "Configuration", and c) "Help and Support".

In "Configuration" from the three radio button options, select "Disable the battery backup alarms at all times", then "Apply".

Let me know if this resolves the problem.

Cheers!

Bill

I went to school with the guy who founded American Power Conversion( APC). Very driven guy. In high school, all he wanted to be was an engineer. He put a lot of classmates to work. Still married to his high school sweetheart. He sold the company maybe 10 years ago
