Someone forwarded this email to me and I thought I would share it...

Like a lot of folks, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I
pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In
order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with
which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution
of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. So here is my
Question. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check
because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Understand, I have no
problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand,
have a problem with helping someone sitting on their rump--doing drugs,
while I work. . . . Can you imagine how much money the state would save if
people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?
I guess we could title that program, 'Urine or You're Out'.

I wish that could be done and have the desired effect but I'm sure the alcu lawyers would keep it tied up in court until the end of time.
After all, you can't infringe on these peoples right to sit back and mooch off your hard work.

i am all for that, plus I have always thought that welfare people should have to put in 20 hours a week of public service in order to get the check, still leaves them time too look for a real job, like that is going to happen

Gunsmith 11,

you have a great idea! We have a baseball park, we always need people to clean up. Trash could be picked up on roads. Schools need grounds maintained. I could go on and on.

Sounds good to me. We got creamed in taxes again this year. I would be happy to get a thank you card and maybe some help cleaning up the yard or something.

That will never happen though. All that is going to happen is these baby factories will produce more welfare babies and we will be excepted to pay for them.

I would like to see school children have a urine test with a physical. Not to weed someone out, but to find the kids who need help, and possibly curb the spread of drugs in schools. I would also like to see schools teach gun safety and swimming.

And while we're at it, why don't we put a GPS in their car to make sure they don't speed. And then because we give them money, we should be able to control other things like not letting them smoke or drink. And then we can look at their diet because I'm sure they're all over weight.

It never ceases to amaze me how people on this board who purport to be in favor of liberty advocate for something like this. It confirms my belief that it's not that you don't like government control, it's that you don't like the form of government control that the other person is espousing. How about looking at why I have to degrade myself and pee in a cup to get a job? Yet someone could be a complete drunk and still get the job. Shouldn't the issue be that if your performance at work is without question you should be good to go?

More to the point, instead of focusing on the person's personal problems, shouldn't we require that someone taking welfare do some work for the good of their community? Shouldn't we be more concerned that welfare dollars get something other than someone not doing anything? What really pisses me off is that I go to work and they do not yet there is a significant need in our communities for people to do things. They could spend a day a week working with a day care so that other single mothers can go out and get some work. They could work helping those on government assistance that truly cannot help themselves (think seniors and meals on wheels). They could help in so many ways and they are not. That's what pisses me off. Note also that by getting up on a regular basis and doing some work, we are directly affecting the issue - that these people are not working. This keeps their "get up and do something" skills in tune until they actually can get private work.

The other thing that pisses me off about welfare is that they pull the rug out from people who do try to get ahead. Instead of losing your support and Medicaid if you get a minimum wage job, it should be phased out. This would encourage work. I don't know for sure, but when faced with work for $200/week with no healthcare versus sit at home for $100/week with healthcare, I'm not so sure many people wouldn't pick the later. The incentives are backward. That's what pisses me off.
