Any help with info on this really nice Victory model would be appreciated
Story is that this gun belonged to a retired ship commander that passed a while back. His widow sold gun to a neighbor and told him that it was her husbands from WW2 but she passed befor he could get provenance in writing. Gun appears to have been shop very little.

The SN would date its probable shipment to around late 1942, possibly early 1943. It's in fairly high condition indicating it didn't see a lot of action. The Navy property stamping stopped at around SN V266xxx.in mid-1943.

Very nice Victory, the book isn't exact on manufacturing dates except for the following - 1942-1945, V1-V811119. Also serial numbers with a SV prefix began in 1944 when an improved hammer block was added due to an accidental discharge that caused the death of a sailor. I agree with Mike that it is an early Victory. I'm certain your revolver is a 1942 model since I have a 1943 lend lease model with SN V444264.

The gun and the Navy stamp look legitimate and in very good condition, but I would (just out of habit and based on experience) not place a lot of faith in the story with it.

Very nice piece! Most definitely a Dec 42' gun.

Very nice! My oldest son recently signed on and left home for a 6 year Navy tour. I've been looking at these thinking it would make a fantastic gift for him at some point. Thanks for the great pictures!

Very nice Victory model... thanks for posting!

You might want to do a little research on the former owner... find out from the neighbor the widow's name and go from there. If it's an unusual last name, etc. you might get lucky and learn a little more.

Thanks for all the info. My Dad served on B24 in South Pacific during the war and I have pics of some of his crew members shooting revolvers and I thought having one that is marked as Navy gun would further honor his memory.

I'd letter it... Removes doubt if it's " real deal "

I have no doubt, I’ve owned several victory model and this is the real deal and the nicest one I’ve ever seen. I would like an idea of value as I’m doing a new inventory. This one will go to my son at some point. He has my Dads ribbons and such as well as two log books.
