Hi,

Got a S&W .38 Special Victory model.

Is it safe to fire Winchester .38 special 125 Gr. JSP ammo without excessive wear or safety problems?

I bought this ammo mainly for my 686.

Main concern is the fact that it's jacketed, not lead.

Thanks

Military .38 ammo was, and is, jacketed, so I see no reason for concern on that score. Sure, jacketed ammo will wear a bore faster than lead, but you're talking tens of thousands of rounds.

If the ammo is +P stuff, I'd probably show the revolver a bit of respect and go with a standard pressure loading. But again, not too huge of a deal.

Merv. Should be "No Problema" - I shoot that same ammo in all my preWW2 Model 1905s & Victory Models, with nary a problem, assuming the gun you have is in good mechanical condition. Ed.
