Hey guys. I'm trying to decide between a new M&P 10 for $1310 and a used one with a 20 round pmag and 2 boxes of ammo for 1250. The round count on the used rifle is only 30 so it's practically new. Because they're so close in price I wanted to get some feedback concerning warranty issues.
Will I have warranty coverage as the second owner? I'm not sure if the small value difference is worth risking not being covered. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks

If you're comfortable with the price of the new one, then I'd go for it. It's a $60 difference, but in the end it's your call. Provided it doesn't exceed your budget..

Good luck, and post pics when you have your new noise maker!

Any used firearm I purchased was covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

One item of note concerning S&W. If you modify the rifle, new bought or used, they will not honor the warranty. I don't know if this is just for the M&P10 or their entire product line, but you should know that up front. Some here have tried to get service and were denied because items were changed on it (like one would do with and AR-15 and many other firearms). So, just changing your flash hider could void the warranty.

That being said, I've never had an issue with my rifle and the new one is about $300 cheaper than what I paid for mine new. If it were me, I would probably go with the used one, all things being equal between to the two. $60 is $60 and .308 ammo isn't cheap. Not knowing the rounds included, figure about $50 - $70 worth for the ammo.

New one all the way. You could be buying someone's trouble and not know it. Just saying for that very small amount of difference - new, new, new. Good luck!

I would buy new,it's only $ 60.00 more then the used one. Then buy new ammo. That's me and my opinion!

For only a $60 difference it's not even a thought; get the new one.

Lots of stories about S&W doing warranty work on guns bought new. However, their warrant specifically says it applies to the original purchaser. So, for $60, it's worth it to get the new one.

Depends on the circumstances.

A $1310 gun bought new here would cost me $1448 out the door. A used $1250 gun from a private sale would cost me $1250.

So I'd have to ask myself is $200 (+ 2 box of ammo and the pmag) worth a warranty.

Is it was an M&P 15 I'd not consider a warranty worthy much. But it's my understanding that some of the M&P 10 is proprietary. I'd probably go with the new S&W original owner warranty.
