I just saw an ad for a used Model 10, for $979.00. Somebody's on crack, or am I missing something?

If it's a run of the mill model 10, even NIB with papers/tools etc., somebody's definitely on crack.

Well, all I can say is, I'd like to sell mine for that. Heck half that would thrill me.

A year or so ago, I sold a new 10-7 for and a 99.5% 1968 10-5 for 550 each, and I was glad to get that. I have one more left, and at sometime it is going, but not for 550. I sold a gun I paid 900 for, for 1200. They now go for 16-1800. Just nuts what is going on:confused:

Welcome to the future. The day of a $300 pistol are in the past.
Yes, deals can still be found but don't expect them.

Pretty much. I'm on the hint for a .38 S&W Safety Hammerless. I remember they were fairly affordable for good conditioned guns. Not so much these days.

Things are in a strange place right now, and may stay that way a long time.
There seems to be a market for about every gun available right now. Much of this is driven by a lot of new shooters / gun owners, over the last 18 - 24 months.
The price you quoted seems awful to me, even new in the box, but I am not ready to pay 2022 prices, with dollars valued as low as they are right now.
Police trade in Model 10's were $150.00 and there were many to choose from on tables at gun shows a few short years ago.

I bought a pretty nice 15-3 (probably 85- 90%) a year ago last August.
I gave $475.00 cash, and figured I got a decent deal. Turns out that it was a way better deal than I thought it was. Its a good shooter, and I happy that I bought before things really started to go through the roof.
Like a moron I left a 66-3 snub sitting for $600.00 a couple years ago.
That bad move, will probably keep me from ever owning one of those, with current prices the way they are.

Every one is listing guns at ridiculously high prices. Some are on crack others are fishing for suckers. Ran into guy with run of the mill truck grade 311 Stevens SXS. When I inquired he said he was looking for $700 but might take a little less. When I left he was still looking for $700.
There are guns that are in demand and current situation puts them at premium. There are however a lot of guns with no demand or market. Also the chapter about condition has been used for other purposes.

This is an age-related problem.

Old geezers often think times never change, and either does the value of a dollar.

Long odds were once expressed in terms of "dollars to donuts".

The local donut shop sells donuts for as much a thee bucks EACH.
Each, I say, EACH! Not per dozen like I used to pay when bringing snacks to the office.

Most $300 guns in my safe would now easily fetch well over a grand. That is a grand EACH, not per dozen :-)

If it's 98% or better, consider it sold. Prices are going silly crazy. And as long as people pay those prices, they will stay crazy or climb.

It's in excellent mechanical condition, shooter grade. PM me and we can work something out.
