Me and the tribe are going to be in Sevierville area first week of August.

Does anyone know of any good gun shops, shows or such? (Or shops to steer clear of)

Also, as a Floridian with a CWP, can I buy or trade firearms at a dealer?

Thanks for any info

You can buy long guns, not handguns. Handguns would have to be shipped to a dealer in your state. An FFL in any state can accept a gun from you in trade.

Check out Smokey Mountain Knifeworks while you're there, lots of junk, but some neat stuff too.

The only gun shops that I am aware of are over in Knoxville. I've never found any in Sevierville. Get a listing of those in Knoxville. It is well worth the 30 to 45 minute drive.

Couple of little ones. Nothing to write home about. SMKW is full of Chinese and Paki knives. I've always done better at shows.

Spend a ton of money. Helps keep our taxes low! Please stay off the back roads and don't throw your trash out of your windows.

Enjoy Hillbilly Orlando!

Please stay off the back roads

????
We get to the Smokies, and Sevierville (Home of Ten-Tec :) ), every couple of years and our favorite thing to do is drive the back roads.
So I don't understand that sentiment

BTW - And this applies to the entire state of Tennessee. Not only DON'T throw trash out of your windows (cigarette butts ARE trash too) report ANYONE that you see doing it. Tennessee is just too beautiful to be littered or burned by idiots

We want you to come and spend your money but, we don't want you to clog up the back roads (it's the only way we can get around because the main roads are clogged with tourists. If you clog up our back roads, then we can't even get around). You might enjoy throwing your trash out of your windows at your home but, we don't appreciate you polluting our home.

Well, since there are no good gun shops in the area I am visiting, I think I am gonna buy some Pakastani knives, open the package while driving on a back road and throw the box out the window.

Ha Ha just kidding.

I plan to spend a lot of time at the log cabin with my family, smoke cigars, sip scotch, ride my Harley and eat lots of good food. And yes, we will be spending lots of $$$ because that is what it takes to vacay there, much like Orlando.

Might even buy a gun if something strikes my fancy.....

Thanks to those who provided answers to my original question.

While it is technically a gun store, I don't recall seeing anyone actually buy anything there, but try the Bass Pro shop just off the interstate on the way to Sevierville. It is really in Kodak, but why quibble about a patch of sidewalk.

J. Floyds, or maybe it is Hammer's now, I don't recall is in Sevierville proper. It is ok, and has some optics and such as well as guns. But you will have to wade through the golf sticks and balls to get to them. Haven't been there in a while, but seems like the prices were average.

There is a "new" gun shop in the area, but I cannot recall the name.

Go to the Tennessee Gun Owners Forum, tngunowners.com and search for gun shops in the Kodak/Sevierville/Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg areas. All these cities basically run together now. Like here, there are a bunch of good people on that forum, and bound to be one in the area that will respond.

While you are in Tennessee, let me suggest coming up to the Roan Mountain area as well, or maybe on your next trip. All the beauty of the Smokies, without the tourist traps. The Roan Mountain area is very close to Boone and Blowing Rock NC as well, lots to do in the whole region, and we see less traffic in a month than you will see in Pigeon Forge in one day.

Those of us native Tennesseans old enough to remember Gatlinburg as it originally was tend to call that town down the mountain Pigeon Scourge.

Well, I got home today at about 5:00 PM. I learned a few things about the area along with what to do and what not to do.

Found no gunshops

It was hot as blazes, the high dollar, log cabin did not have enough tonnage to keep the upper floor of the cabin cool during the day.Not ideal for 400.00 a night.

My battery for my Harley died the first day. Local HD dealer wanted 150.00 for a new one plus 9.75 tax. My guy at my hometown battery shop said he would get me one for 65.00 when I got back. I wanted to ride so I laid out the $$$. The Harley guy said about 95% of customers are from other states.

The Gatlinburg by-pass is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Drink Cheerwine.

Try out the Titanic attraction.

Rent a pontoon boat at Fontana Marina

Stay away from zip lines, train rides and monster truck rides.

Give your wife and daughter lots of cash to blow.

There is a pancake house on every block.

Smokey Mountain Knife works was neat. Lots to see. Picked out a Colt Damascus Bowie, Stag. Beautiful knife till I saw the Pakistan stamp. Colt made in Paki??? Bought a new Bear (Yes a Bear) Yellow Sod Buster instead, made in USA

A 5.5 mile hike, (more like a death march) up the mountain to Rainbow Falls. Beautiful when you arrive, but tough hiking in the heat and humidity. My wife re-named it Mount-Kiss-My-Ass.

Eat at the BBQ Wagon in Bryson City, NC. Best food of the whole trip

Smoke a good cigar and have a scotch while stargazing off the upper deck when your family and friends have turned in for the night.

Those mountains are God's country. The people were great.

The preceding is not a commercial endorsement for any establishment. Just my two cents worth of opinion.

Back to work tomorrow......

Glad you had a good trip. Next time try out the gun shops in Knoxville. There are quite a few, and I have seen several good deals if you have an FFL or a local dealer who will receive handguns for you back home.
Also try out Mel's Diner in Pigeon Forge for the best milkshakes in the area.

My sister and I and both families got a mountainside house for a week above a valley outside Sevierville a couple of years ago. It was one of the best vacations we have had. We had to play the tourist one day and went to see the Dolly dinner and show. TN is beautiful country and great people.
Went in by way of the Bass Pro, and with all the incoming traffic, it took almost as long to get from there to Sevierville as it did from Roanoke. We went out by way of the Smokies thru NC and had a great drive. Hope to get back there some day.
