Condition is everything. Over the last month I have seen Brazilian Contract pieces go from under $500. to over $1100. Even the Brazilian Contract pieces are not immune to the Corona feeding frenzy, but the widest price stretches seem to be for the most choice pieces.

A rising tide lifts all boats. Even grungy Brazilian shooters are bringing eye opening prices as compared to a few years ago. The same phenomenon happened to several other models like the Highway Patrolman, the Model 1917 and the Victory revolver, among others.

1917 Brazilian barrels are hard to locate. I used to buy them from Numrich cheap, but with the last 1917 I bought that needed a new barrel I had to search for about 3 months to find one good/used original S&W for $100. I felt lucky to find it. The Brazilian made spare barrels are good quality and accurate shooters, but some don’t like them as the barrel profile is somewhat different from original (completely round from the frame to the front locking lug).

Put in a search on Ebay. I bought a S&W original 6 months ago, very nice, about $130. I still have the search and there's always a few. Some dogs that keep getting relisted, but you can find one if you read your ebay alerts every morning in your email.

If the one you're looking at needs a barrel, no more than $300! Especially if just a shooter grade.

What's wrong with the barrel? if just a little to moderate pitting, accuracy won't be affected. If it's a sewer pipe or bulged, get a replacement and lower your offer on the gun.

Thank you all

Thank you all for the good advice. I have a matching #'s Smith & Wesson military but was interested in the Brazilian as a shooter. The extra barrel is a part that is also available.

Simpson Limited posted a Brazilian today. Nearly $1k iirc. Has German proofs on it. They are not usually known for low prices. Even has timing issues! Yours for only $950.
