Value of .38/44 Heavy Duty picture box

I noted where a Registered Magnum box was offered at $1100 and likely sold at or near that. What’s the value of a similar .38/44 Heavy Duty box, as pictured? Less than a Registered Magnum box, but how much less? 75%? 50%? 25%?

The last photograph depicts what is likely THE original revolver in its box but it could be just A revolver in the correct box.

I would pay $750.00 or more for a .38/44 Outdoorsman box for my Club Gun, sn 0350. It was put in a Gold box after it was refinished after WWII. I think the HD box should bring at least $750.00.

Thank you, Don! A curiosity more than anything. I always thought of a Registered Magnum box as being about $750, possibly $1000 if stellar. But not so stellar examples seem to bring that now, and so I guess I am behind the times.

I think $750 is a bit high for a pre-war Heavy Duty box. I would think it would bring $400 - $600. A Blue "picture" box for a pre-war 38/44 Outdoorsman's Revolver would most likely command a $50-$150 premium to the comparable HD box, and pre-war 357 Magnum boxes can go really high, depending on the box size and which picture box (Type I or Type II). As with all things collectible, condition makes a huge difference in the ultimate price a buyer is willing to pay.

I sold a blue .38/44 Heavy Duty box at the last Louisville gun show for $400. It was in very similar condition to the one pictured.

The Pre-War .357 Magnum box I recently sold for $1100 was in fairly nice solid condition but nowhere close to excellent or mint condition. It was a medium size Type 2 box which is the most common RM/NRM box and sold in less than 1 day. A large size Type 1 or Type 2 box in comparable condition would probably bring at least 50% - 75% more, and a small size Type 2 box in comparable condition could easily bring 100% more.
