There has been a nice looking .44-40 DA Frontier with a 5" barrel on gunbroker recently. The auction ended with no bids. No reserve at $755.
There are decent pictures and the nickel plating looks pretty good, and original to me. The seller advertises it at 60% original finish but it looks better than that too me with a really nice bore.
Isn't this a pretty good deal? I'm wondering why it hasn't sold yet.
I have a lesser condition .44-40 with a 6 1/2" barrel (lettered) that I think I would sell for this one.

I guess the economy has its effect. The S&W 44 DA top breaks are my second interest after Colt 1905 Automatics. I have several and time was I would have jumped at that one - but probably would several others. Prices are down in general seems to me. Rock Island Auction just last week had 13 Colt 1905s and very few made the upper estimate number. High condition pieces usually go for 5k+, most fell way below that.

That gun had been on there for quite a while, being relisted constantly. I did notice the last few times the price coming down. It is actually been priced reasonable. And it is also a low serial number. The condition of the nickel plating is probably turning people off on this one. Most people don't like nickel when it had rust and pitting. I have almost thought about bidding on it myself. Problem is money is tight with me.

Not to worry. I'm fairly sure it will probably show up again.

I don't mind the little bit of rust on there. Mine was nickeled at one time but almost all is gone and the whole gun has a grey patina which still looks pretty good to me. You've probably seen me post this before:
