69 years ago today on 8 May 1945 the war in Europe ended when Nazi Germany laid down its arms and the Allied Powers declared victory. to all who served, both the military and those unconditionally supporting them on the homefront, we salute you. Though war is a terrible thing, this was undoubtedly one of our nation's high points when all of America laid aside its differences in an unprecedented show of unity that literally saved the world. The Greatest Generation? Without a doubt.

As I just posted on 'ringo kid's' thread, the 50th anniversary of the end of the war was in 1995. I remember reading that, possibly due to all the recognition and remembrance, elderly combat veterans began to have flashbacks and suffer from PTSD after repressing their bad memories for decades...
