Post 58 Honor Guard was requested to perform a Military Service for a deceased Army Veteran in another City.

On arrival we were met by the Funeral Director who in turn introduced the Family members (two Daughters).
.
The Chapel contained the two Daughters and Their Husbands, plus two Family Friends.

We performed the service. The Daughters requested that "Taps" be sounded a second time at the end of the service.

As usual when I presented the folded Flag the emotions broke though.

We (honor guard) remained after the service where the room would not appear empty and also to comfort the six mourners.

We were sad that this American Hero had so few that attended His service.

The wife and I very recently were picking out our headstone. (Hoping not to be needed in the near future). Our children live many miles away, and we now have all our arrangements made for when the time comes. The very nice people at the monument company specifically asked of I was a veteran, and explained the U.S Government pays to place a small bronze marker on the stone identifying a Veteran. The branch of service and dates can be identified. There is a small price for the dates and installation, but the State of IL pays for that.

You may want to check when your time comes.

Thank you jimmyj for doing what you do to honor departed veterans.

Military funerals; the flag presentation, taps, the rifle volley choke me up. My eyes drip like Niagara Falls, my throat tightens.

At the conclusion of Uncle Joe's funeral, the Patriot Guard Riders rode by. I can hear him say "gee-ma-nee..." as I write this all choked up.

One of my HS class mates (USAF vet) died several years ago. It was Winter time and very cold. I sent out an email to those still living in the hometown and asked them to join me for lunch and then attend the graveside service. I am so glad I did that as the 6 of us were the only ones at the service.
