Does anyone know the best way to get VHS tapes converted to DVD ? I was looking for a service and then saw something from Honetech that indicates you can do it at home yourself.
Anyone do the conversion that can give me the best way to do it. I really don't like the idea of mailing my tapes somewhere. Thanks!!

Grab an analog-to-DV converter (many are for DV-Digital 8 camcorders you can also get them as standalone analog-to-DV converters), transfer to your computer with this and encode it to MPEG-2 and burn a DVD.

There are many online suggestions, but this worked best for me

It is very simple. You need a DVD recorder, a VCR, and a set of connecting cables. The cables you need have three wires with RCA plugs - colored Red, White, and Yellow. Simply connect the cables between the output terminals of the VCR and the input terminals of the DVD recorder. Red to red, etc. With the DVD connected to the TV, you can watch as you record. You will probably need to read the DVD recorder manual about the various recording modes, as there will be several, usually from one hour to 8 hours, and exactly how recording is done, as every DVD recorder will operate a little differently. You will be able to pause and re-start recording any time. DVD recorders usually start at about $100. Or try your local Goodwill - I see DVD recorders there occasionally. There are also combination VCR-DVD recorder units that allow direct recording from VCR to DVD. Those are somewhat more expensive.
