I would like to submit my entry for the Victory database. I inherited this gun from my grandfather along with a Combat Masterpiece, a Chiefs Special Airweight and a Regulation Police.

Majake, That's a nice picture but you need to submit some supporting date for the data base, such as serial number, caliber, proof marks, inspector stamps, import marks, military unit marks, etc. The finish looks pretty bright to be the original dull blue, but perhaps it's the angle of the photo in the light, or has it been refinished?

All I can tell you is the serial # is V201610, and "U.S. NAVY" is stamped on the top left of the frame. Other than that I don't see any other markings. It says 38 S&W SPECIAL CTG on the barrel. The finish is not as shiny at it looks in the picture, it looks original but I really don't know. I'll see if I can take a better one in natural light.

Majake:

Thank you for contributing your data to the Victory Model Database. Every bit of information helps to improve the Database.

If I may I will add mine. Top strap marked UNITED STATES PROPERTY. 4" barrel marked 38 S&W special ctg, no ser # under barrel, ser #V10312x, WB and flaming bomb marks on bottom of frame, English ? proofs below crane BNP with crown and on left forward of trigger housing is a crossed swords with 3 letters. Cylinder is marked England, and has BNP - crown markings. Cylinder appears to be a 38/200 that was rebored to 38 spl as the cases blow out and fireform to chamber. This could indicate that the barrel was possibly replaced. Under crane is marked 45363 under a letter T. Grip stocks and checkered with medallion and diamond, and are marked 58374 indicating that may be from a first run series. Gun was dated to about Feb 1942. All finish is turning brown, appears to be an original blasted bluing that is faded.

Hello Riss:

Thanks for your contribution of information to the Victory Model Database. Could you please email me with the complete serial number? I will include it on a confidential basis. You can reach me at [email protected], and remove the NOSPAM, of course.

With the complete serial I will be able to give you a much more accurate estimate on its shipping date than you have now, and the probable shipping destination.

I agree with you that your barrel has likely been replaced.
