I own one, and recently saw another, Victory that has/had grooves whittled into the grips. I was wondering if that was common war-time practice for a better grasp in less-than-ideal conditions.

Collectors call that style of grips " stressed." They were done by various person who were issued the guns, probably for the reason that they presumed it made for a better grip on the revolver. In my own experience, I could never see any difference between the smooth, as issued, grips and the stressed pairs, insofar as accuracy or in gripping the gun. Changing the smooth issued grips for a pair of K frame Magnas would be a much better solution. Ed.
