Would this gun, with the S serial prefix, be considered a Victory Model? Not trying to be negative here, just wondering since I thought only the guns made during the war were called Victory Models.

Does a V precede the numerals?

Sorry for the faux pas! And my first post, too. The serial number is V 467329.

ginro,

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the contribution to the database.

smith17,

An unknown number of guns were returned to the factory in the late war/early postwar period for fitting of the improved safety design. We have examples in the database with a SN as low as five digits.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea. When they were sent back, did they stamp every serial numbered part with the S or just the butt?
Ed

A large "S" was added at the butt SN; no additional marking on the cylinder, barrel, etc. In addition, a small "s" (for "safety") was stamped at the upper side plate (which may be hidden by oversized stocks).
