Would this gun, with the S serial prefix, be considered a Victory Model? Not trying to be negative here, just wondering since I thought only the guns made during the war were called Victory Models.
Welcome to the forum and thanks for the contribution to the database.
smith17,
An unknown number of guns were returned to the factory in the late war/early postwar period for fitting of the improved safety design. We have examples in the database with a SN as low as five digits.
A large "S" was added at the butt SN; no additional marking on the cylinder, barrel, etc. In addition, a small "s" (for "safety") was stamped at the upper side plate (which may be hidden by oversized stocks).
