Mr.Jinks, he sent me a letter! In it he stated:"your handgun with serial number V121894, was shipped from our factory on October 6, 1942, and delivered to United States Navy, Oakland, CA. The records indicate this firearm was shipped with a 4 inch barrel, military midnight black finish, butt swivel, and smooth walnut grips." Thank you Roy! How cool is the history of these classic revolvers. Now i have to get a Model of 1917. I am hooked.

Thank you for your help Charlie. Yes the topstrap is marked U.S. Navy. Can't wait to put a few rounds through this baby- she's a shooter.

Thank you digi-shots. I have learned a lot about the Victory and other S&W revolvers on this great forum. I'm interested in getting a Model 1917 next. The only other revolver I have is a Nagant M1895 from 1941. It is a pretty robust pistol albeit somewhat underpowered.
