My wife got into villages. I don't know what they are really called but she started out with three Christmas Eve. Things like churches, skating ponds and windmills. She went back to wally world and all the stuff is 50% off. Now she comes home with 7 more boxes of village stuff. I don't even know what they are. Was thinking about putting a thick sheet of well sanded plywood with a few coats of varnish on and mount then on saw horses so next year she can display them. Some of them are battery powered and some have a powerpac to make them run, all led colored lights and maybe a small oval of HO guage track and a little steam engine and a few cars.Frank

Be careful. I've been down that road. If she comes home with a book on current and past models look out. They are collectable and tend to grow. My wife kept it under control but a friend had his entire basement converted to a village display. They had several hundred, lighted, trains cars, roads, on and on. Some of the older limited edition can cost as much as nice Model 19.

My Sister has been collecting them for years, your house will soon be cluttered.

I have a neighbor who I thought was only into motorcycles but lo, he too is secretly a village collector. Very strange what we begin to collect.

Not sure which one's she bought but you might want to keep her away from the Department 56. These are expensive and collectable, especially the older ones. Wife went that route a few years ago, didn't even get them out this year.

On a side note wife went to Wally World and got me 75% off my favorite, ruby grapefruit and oranges. Glad no one gives them in the Christmas socking anymore, more for me.:D

My wife collected Dept 56 Dickens Village for years (not so much now). She (well, we) use to spend days and days before Christmas setting up the displays - now she just puts some houses on the mantle etc.

I think she has maybe 75 houses plus many people and accessories - it can get addictive (sort of like SW but cheaper).

Here's some pics from years past:

My wife has a big set up in an armoire, she leaves it set up in there all year but only opens the doors and turns on those lights at Christmas time. At least I don't have to haul them down and carry them back up to the attic!

Bought my wife Dept. 56 stuff for many years and she would put it out at Christmas time. All of it was from the Dickens Village theme, except for the train set. It's all up the attic and has not been down from there for 15 years or so.

Wow, loutent! That really looks cool. I'm serious!

But...I've got this little bugger that constantly sits on my shoulder telling me to do all sorts of bad things. He plants the seeds so to speak. I wonder how many 5 screws that thing would have cost me?

:)
