I saw that one on TV once, howled with laughter. I can't imagine why it did not have a longer run

I too laughed until I thought I was going to cry. My wife thought there was something wrong with me. She kept asking "Are you alright? Are you alright?" (She was in the other room.)
I will admit that when I saw the title of the thread, I was wondering what the connection between Dean Martin and Volkswagen was.

It’s sad that people couldn’t take the humor it, because at one time or the other we all know that story, and they complained about it!

I don’t like many commercials but this is one that I really liked!, it will always be in my top ten list of commercials

Yes, it was a great commercial/ad.
VW has had a lot of good ones over the years. They are on Youtube. Ads go way back to 1960"s

Of all the trashy adverts on TV I have missed this one and, it's one of the best and cleanest I have seen lately. Had not seen it until I saw it here and it cracks me up.
