I put this in the wrong thread so I deleted it and reposted it here.
Has anyone ever seen this before? There is no undercut above the rim. 5 years ago I loaded 1000 rounds of 44 Mag using W-W cases. The brass was new because I had bought them a few years before and was loading them for the first time. After loading all 1000 I noticed that some had no undercut next to the rim. I contacted Winchester about it and showed them the pics. I don't remember for certain but I think they said that I should send them back. Since they were all loaded that was out of the question. I've shot 500 so far but haven't bothered to check to see any of them were missing the undercut. I've got plenty of time so maybe I'll do that (I'm retired and have all the time in the world).

Per SAAMI, basically for all rimmed cartridges, the rim undercut is indicated as optional. It actually serves no practical function, particularly in revolver cartridges. As long as the cases chamber in your gun and fit in your shell-holder there is no issue. I have no idea why the rep. at Winchester would say to send them back as they are not defective, at least because of the absence of the undercut.!

Excellent!!!
Thank you very much Alk8944! I had forgotten all about these cases until I read the thread about the 44 Mag split cases. I originally posted my comment there then got to thinking that was the wrong place so I made a new thread. I had never seen a missing undercut before except in really old brass. When I bought these they came in 100 piece bags. I just dumped each bag into a big box not thinking about anything but verifying that all had centered primer holes. I do that when ever I buy new brass because I had that happen twice back in the late 70's.
There is always the chance that the rep didn't have any idea what I was talking about too. Don't know just guessing.
