A friend gave me a "heads up" on some ammo at W-Mart. So, I get up out of my easy chair and bust it on over there. Mission accomplished: UMC 40cal $25/250rd x 3 boxes ($75), WIN PDX 40cal $5/20rd x2 boxes ($10), PERFECTA 357Mag $9/50rd x2 boxes ($18), REM 44Mag $9/50 x 3boxes ($27) = $130!! I figure it was about $410 reg price. I was pretty much on a "sales purchase high."

They are putting some .40 on clearance. When and what stores varies. You got seriously lucky.

I still remember back in the "good old days" of wooden crates of comblock ammo for practically nothing, the saying used to be: "buy it cheap and stack it deep"!! Words to live by!!

Good for you, LEADPOISON!! Better go back tomorrow and get some more... We may be experiencing some "turbulence", as the aviation folks say. I may run by the local Walmart myself tomorrow.

Best Regards, Les

I went to my local Walmart this past weekend and picked up a brick of CCI .22 standard velocity and a bunch of .223. I was shocked that the guy at the counter was even considering letting me buy all of it. When I was checking out he politely informed me that he didn't care much for the 3 boxes of .22 per customer rule! [emoji106] I was a happy camper.

Five dollars per box of Win PDX?? Holy carp, I wish I lived in the same universe as you guys. In my universe, Wal-Mart rarely has any ammo that I can use, and what little they have is horribly overpriced. I've only bought one box of ammo there, Rem .380, for $20. I normally wouldn't pay that much, but I was so astounded that they had anything at all that I could use, that I bought it simply because I could.

Well, I have sometimes been paying a little more than I should, because the alternative in the near future may be that I won't be able to buy any at all,mat any price, and I feel we need to stock up. I don't believe this is paranoia, but based on our experience over the last decade of ammo shortages. I know from experience that folks panic and buy the shelves bare, and even under the best of conditions, it yap takes time for the ammo companies to restock the shelves of the LGS.

Best Regards, Les

Those 357 and 44 prices are insane! I can't even reload them for that. Sounds like you should have bought a few lottery tickets.

Was at my local WM yesterday. The guy who is knowledgeable said that the clearances were started weeks ago, probably long-finished unless a manager somewhere didn't get around to it, and we should not expect any more before Christmas. Maybe some black Friday stuff, but he has nothing on that yet. General quantity of incoming ammo is very low, except for shotgun shells.

OP just got lucky.

That's why hardly anyone else can find ANY.

f.t.

While that may be the case in other areas of the country. In Charlotte, .22 ammo is everywhere. I would say that 3/4 Walmart will have some in stock. Every gun shop has shelved full of it as well as Cabelas, Gander and Bass Pro. So while I am empathetic to your situation, in my area my one purchase will not produce critical failures on any other interested parties.

Ammo sale at wallyworld

Started checking every day at my local since I read this thread. Friday the sporting area guy asked was I looking for anything special (after seeing me 3 times in 3 days). I told him the story, he goes into the back, checks and says come early Saturday. I went today at 0830 and it was my turn!!. Win WDX 38special@$5/20, 20 Ga slugs at 3$ a box of 15, 40 S&W 180 gr jhp @$11/100 and WIN 223 polymer tip varmint and predator $5/20. Other stuff available but I do not shoot 30-30,.270 etc. As it was I spent more than this month's budget in 15 minutes. yeah
