so since the news that wal mart will no longer sell handgun ammo i have been trying to buy out our local store's supply of 38 special ammo . i'm sorry , i know , but their price plus tax beats anything i can find on the web , which is where i buy most of my ammo . anyway first trip bought half 38 on shelf , gonna be nice and give fellow shooters a chance to buy some . next day bought what was left on shelf .a week later i'm back for something and check , sure enough more 38 ammo . i bought half . couple days later back in and buy almost all but not quite . this time the manager lady that i know was there . we got to talking and she tells me that the corporate memo says once their contract with supplier expires no more handgun ammo . i guess thats never but was wrong . 5 years before existing contract ends . until then plenty ammo .oh well at least i am stocked up on 38 special . another reason to go to the range . yay !! just thought you fellows would like to know that . kenny , texas

I was at my local Wally World and the had one 100 box of .38 +P so I got that but no .357. They did has some aluminum case but I don’t like to shoot that.

Walmart

Talked to the clerk and the gun counter a few days ago. Their cabinet is packed with ammo, and she said they were told they get one more delivery and then what's in the case is the last.

Are they discounting it at all? The absurdity of it all is that hand guns aren't used in Mass shootings that much. Particularly revolvers. So, let's get rid of handgun ammo. That will fix the problem.

Been working part time at the local wally world for the last couple years. The official notice was that all handgun and SBR (whatever that is!) ammo would be discontinued but that stock would be sold until the warehouse was empty. Corporate also claimed that they would "continue to support the hunting market" by continuing to sell hunting rifles and shotguns and the ammo for them (except for the "evil" 223 because it can be used in "high capacity magazines" and I guess 357 and 44 magnum for the Henry rifles they still stock).

There is apparently still plenty of ammo in the warehouse chain because it's still coming into the store regularly (and if there are contract obligations that might last a while). Sales are up though, many people wanting to "get it before it's gone" along with the fact that wally world is usually the cheapest place to buy locally (and the rumor mill having many believing that all the ammo is going away encouraging people to stock up) has certainly increased the business at the gun counter.

I think this whole thing is really "Virtue Signalling" on Corporates part for the medias benefit, they feel that they need to be seen as "doing something!!" even if it's pointless. I can recall some years ago (when I worked for a small local gun shop) that wally world halted all gun sales and (briefly!) pulled them out of the area stores (which helped our sales at the time!). Later they quietly put them back, though in fewer stores than before. I suspect that future events could result in more changes, either bringing back some of the deleted ammo or going the other way and getting rid of all guns and ammo altogether. They are, after all, a Big Box retailer, not a sporting goods store so that department makes up only a small part of their overall retail operation............

I remember when WW sold reloading supplies. I bought a five lb keg of H2400 there, in the 70s...........

I think that it is time for the pro-2A hunting public to do some virtue signaling and boycott Wal-Marts sporting goods counters altogether. Screw price and screw Wal-Mart. Let Wal-Mart eat the piles of ammo they have in stock. Let's give our business to those who do not hold us in such low regard. I'm going to state publicly that I will no longer buy guns nor ammo, regardless of price, from Wal-Mart. Who is with me?

It's all complete Bull ****. If Wal Mart really wants to save lives, they will stop selling tobacco and alcohol. Period. But that isn't the goal, so they still sell something that is legal, but can directly or indirectly cause significant injury or deaths.

Exactly, and the employees need to stage another walk out regarding this but most like to smoke and drink too much...

IMHO, after a shooting tragedy big companies like Walmart love to make a huge announcement about their pulling guns, certain types of ammo etc to make the antis feel good about shopping there. When it seems to all have blown over they quietly put the same items out on the shelves again.

If you dig into Wal-Mart's corporate policies, you will find that Wal-Mart is a charter member of Everytown for Gun Safety, then look into Everytown for Gun Safety and who founded that organization. Once you do that, you will understand Wal-Mart's policy on ammunition and firearms and the carrying of such in their stores.

Walmart knows how to take advantage of it's customers...
Played you like a fiddle...you got 5 more years to buy all the cheap ammo you can.
I'll buy from my local gun dealer...I know his first name and he knows mine .

Walmart has lost all my business .

They wont miss ya Gary.

I will buy it from them until if and when they truly stop.

IMO when the winds shift a little as mentioned above WM will quietly return to selling it.

If not no worries I buy it til I cant then hit Academy or some other retailer.
Most local LGS are considerably higher. Yes I understand the power of volume purchasing but also understand my personal finances.

WM often beats online prices as well.

Would you mind sharing/stating the price??? Post or PM. Thanks

I can't state for 45 Auto, but I had bought a 100 round box of some 40 S&W Federal 180 grain plinking ammo about 1 day before Walmart came out with their new policy. And last week I went to Academy in Lafayette and bought a 100 round box of Winchester 40 S&W 180 grain plinking ammo for about the same price. Both were a bit under $30 for a 100 round box. So it looks to me like Academy has the 40 S&W ammo priced about the same as Walmart at least.

As for me, I rarely buy manufactured ammo since I reload and I can do that for cheaper than I can buy manufactured stuff.
