Walther PPK/S Added a Manurhin PP

I bought this from a buddy at work for $300. He had it stolen from his house a few years ago, and just had it recovered. When I got it, it was a lot pinker. Whatever the PD used to process it with left a pink shade to it. It cleaned-up with some steel wool and a small file to remove some dings (those criminals don't take care of guns very well).

I've owned several different makes and models of handguns over the years, but never a PPK type handgun. This one dates to 94'-95' and is Interarms produced. I've fired it a few times. It's been accurate and reliable. Even with with my preferred XTP hollowpoint.

Here's some pics. The Super Vel is for photo use only, not what I carry in it. Although I've heard it was the ammo to have back in the day.

I went into my local shop and they had a Manhurin PP in .32. Price was right at $225. I guess they had a bunch of guns they had to sell on consignment from someones Bankruptcy.

Based on my research, this dates to 1952 and was imported into the US sometime in the 80's. These were police trade-ins. The Walther logo was XXXX out as Interarms was the only one that was licensed to sell Walthers in the US at that time (or something like that). Came with two mags, but no box. Bore look excellent.

I prefer everything on my belt. It might back-up my EDC.

I also have a nice light shoulder holster for it if I ever wear my Tux again.

I've probably had a dozen or so PP series guns over the years and (in general) all in .22 or 380 were jam-a-matics, whereas all the 32 acp PPs, PPKs and PPK-S worked flawlessly. The PP was designed around the 32 ACP cartridge to begin with so I suppose the design just likes the size and shape of that round. I would put at least 200 rounds of whatever carry ammo you plan on using through the gun (with the mags you plan to use in it, too) before you trust it as a carry piece. Others have told me how their PP series guns all work flawlessly and I'm glad to hear it but many of the ones I have owned didn't work all that great. When I used to wholesale/retail guns numerous customers also related major problems with the PP series jamming-except for the 32 caliber guns. That's why my carry PPK-S is in 32ACP (7.65mm) made by S&W.

I actually always wanted a Blued PPK/S in .32. Just never got around to getting one.

How are they for slide bite? I seem to recall people complaining that you had to be careful about that.

I had one of the older PPKS models that left tracks (slide bite) on the back of my hand after a few dozen rounds. Great little gun but I moved it along b/c of the annoying slide bite.

You got a good deal.

The one I carried for a few years absolutely loved the 100 grain Hornady Custom XTP ammunition. Reliable and extremely accurate with that load.

This concerned me before I shot it. No problems at all.

I did read there is a way to prevent it. It requires you to shoot it with your shooting hand thumb lowered towards the bottom of the trigger guard.

One of the solutions was S&W extended the beavertail on the ones they made.

You did extremely well. I've seen a number of the stainless PPK/Ss at gun shows over the years and they were always $500+. That's one of the reasons I waited so long to get mine.

I picked this blue one up at a gun show just last weekend. Early 80s gun LNIB. I shoots great, no jams and no slide bite. I'm very happy with it.

That was the gun I carried as a young Narcotics Officer attached to a Task Force in the San Joaquin Valley of California back in the late 70s - early 80s. We were all inspired by the BNE agents who supervised our local task forces. I owned one stainless, one alloy frame and one all blued steel at different times. The PPK or PPK/s was our daily carry gun, with our 1911s reserved for search warrant service and covering undercover officers during buys. Great little guns.

Had a used German Police PP in 32 ACP. Great shooter, but would not feed Silvertip hollow points, about the only ones available back then, so had to sell it. Wishing I had another.

ALL Walthers after the war were made by Manurhin and then shipped to Germany for final assembly. I have an Interarms PPK/s 380, an older Walther PP in 32, and a very old (war time) PP in .22. The 32 seems to be the most reliable.

You did real well

My late F-I-L's Walther PP .32 a.c.p., a former German NDS police pistol. This is one of two Walther pistols out of about eight I have owned that worked 100% of the time.

Super Vel ammo was cutting edge stuff back in the day. Real rip snorting stuff. I shot a ton of it through the various .38 Supers I owned. I believe it was loaded similar to European ammo specs.

I also have one of the Manhurin made PP's in 32 acp. Have heard that these pistols don't function as well when using european loaded ammo. So having heard that I tried some brown bear and silver bear and some old federal and shot it. All worked fine in my pistol. Thing I paid $330 for mine when they first came out. Haven't seen any lately at the local fun shows. Somewhat like the Sig P-6 that came from western germany with police markings. they were a hot item, single stack 9mm 8 rounds. Went crazy getting the mag pouches, different holsters and magazines. Great pistols. Frank
