I have an old desk top computer (XP Version) as my only computer. It is not near the TV. I have a new TV that does not have internet built in. I want to watch certain internet shows on my TV, but don't want to buy a dedicated laptop just for the TV. Any suggestions how to do it without spending a fortune?
Thanks,

If you want to go wireless then you are going to need a wireless pc-to-tv setup. It costs around 100-150. The cheap solution is run a usb/dvi to hdmi type cable.

Another solution (clunky) is if you have a wireless router, you can get a cheap used computer along with wireless adapter and place it next to the tv.

router/dvd

Howdy,
I have mine set up with a wifi dvd player.
It picks up from a wireless router. I turn on the tv and set it like I was going to watch a dvd and get the option to select Netflix, Utube etc. and pick what I want and watch.
Good luck.

I use a Bluray player with Wifi to stream Netflix. You can choose what you want to watch and build a list online. That list will also be shown when you first turn on Netflix. It only cost $8.00 a month. Well worth it.

There's also Hulu. But I don't know much about it.

Most dvd players, apple tv, roku, x-box etc will allow you to access streaming sites like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu plus but they won't allow you to view normal sites like this one. As Guneur said there are divices that will allow you to stream anything you can see on your screen to the tv. They usually consist of a box that hooks to your tv and a dongle that plugs into your USB port on the computer. Do a search on Amazon, I've seen a couple there.

I put a video card in my computer (also older, with XP) that has an S-video output, bought a cable off ebay, ran it down through the basement and over and up to the TV and into the S-video jack on the back of it. Went into my control panel, display, advanced, set up the tv to mirror my monitor. I also ran RCA cable from my speaker output, off a speaker splitter, to the stereo in the entertainment center that the TV is in, so between my computer at one end of the room (pretty decent speaker setup) and the stereo, you can get that surround sound experience! As a matter of fact the wife and I just finished watching the new True Grit.

I want to view normal internet, not just netflics etc. I think more and more video worth watching will be on the internet and not on cable or satilite- like GBTV
