I think he's both, an outlaw and a womanizer. One of the lyrics, he can't recall why he is wanted at "someplace in between" a coupla towns. I think that's not a woman.
The women looking for him call to mind stories, true, I think, of railroad men who had multiple wives and families, as their jobs required travel.
I'd venture that while when young multiple wives and families might be enjoyable, with age it would likely be stressful.
Actually, I'd venture it'd be pretty stressful when young.
For the adventurous, I think the occasional floozie similarly inclined individual of the female persusion would be the way to go.
