Found thanks,
I want about 100; 148 gr HBWC .358" bullets, I am looking for the hollow base ones with the slight cup shaped nose. I think these are all swaged bullets, and fairly soft.
The only ones I see which are near what I want are Speer which are only available 500 to a box. I don't want to add to the accumulation of stuff if this doesn't work out..

I have been convinced by various members that my carry loads around the property here are overkill. I usually carry a 2-3 or 4" 357. I have been using various Buffalo Bore loads which are great stuff, but one heck of a big flash & bang.
I am persuaded that for our coyotes, a HBWC loaded to more modest velocities would be better. The conditions would be, no ear protection, neighbors fairly close, probably target distances of no more than 25 yds.
So a 148 gr bullet in a .357 case, ahead of say 3.5grs of Bullseye is what I would like to try.

I've load a .358 HBWC in 357 brass and 3.5grs Red Dot, great for target, still wouldn't shoot it without hearing protection. I'm sure if you got enough of them into a coyote it would weigh him down enough to get rid of him.

Shot placement that is the key, actually that old blunt point at 850 is fairly serious stuff.
Of course I probably will never see a coyote when I am outside; they snoop around and have taken some of the neighbors pets. I have seen them out the window but open a door and they are gone.

When working in the yard, walking the cats, going after the mail, and that sort of thing I am not wearing shooting glasses or ear protection. Oh and I can't carry a suppressed handgun concealed in the hot weather, assuming I had one.

In my youth I was on the firing line with probably 20 people at a time shooting 38 spl wad cutters with 3.2 grs(?) Bullseye, we may have used cotton batting, I don't remember, of course a very bad idea but we didn't know any better.

Any way I don't think a shot is going to make my hearing much worse.

Magnus makes what I want but "out-of-stock". Some one must have a source.

Why don't you just order the already loaded 38sp wadcutter Fiocchi ammo from Ammunition to Go for 16.95 a box
suff shoots good and accurate.

Pete

I remember when loaded up some HBWC's backwards once looking to duplicate the "Flying Ashtray" loads that i read about in some of my fathers old gun rags. Never hit an animal with them, but from the way they blew up milk jugs and other various containers of water, look out.

OldRoger, sent you a PM. The 148s' I loaded in to 357 cases at 1.330"OL came out at 747fps with 3grs Clays, 829fps with 3.5grs Clays. Also ran 723fps with 2.8grs Red Dot. This was through a 6" 686 all were very accurate. Still wouldn't shoot them without any hearing protection.
