My story...A couple of months ago, gentleman approaches my table and hands me this Smith Model 1917, barrel cut down. He says, "You buy Smith's..give me $125 bucks for this."
The gun locks up tight, no pitting or scratches in the metal..bluing just about gone...But hey, an old Belly Gun for $125 bucks, so I buy it.
Take the gun to an old friend who is the LGS owner. I ask him make this gun look better.
Here it is, this is it!! This is what my old dear friend did to my gun...

The boys at the shop had a good laugh, as well as I. He even turned the grip screw gold...For the good laugh my friend doesn't charge me a nickel..

Anyway...here it is. I wish I knew how to post larger pictures, but I don't.

Enjoy.

Nov. 2007 I paid $275 for this Brazilian 1917. It has the barrel cut to 4" and if you look closely you can see that the trigger guard has been shaved on the right side. I always felt that it was the homeliest 1917 in existence.
Thanks, Ringo. I feel much better, now.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. :-)
In all seriousness, you did great! The frame looks to be in great shape and I kinda like the finish. You wanna sell it? I've got several project N frame barrels and cylinders just waiting for a good frame to put them on. One future project in particular is a .44-40 factory cylinder and a .44 cal mountain gun barrel.
Here's one I put together with an otherwise ruined British .455 frame. It's a barrel and cylinder from a PC 625-10 with a lot of hand work.

Pimptastic.
Need to nickel plate the blue parts and put some deep dish MOP stocks on it.
That, and put a front sight on it.
OR, install sights on the right side of it, so you can hold it in true gangsta fashion while you keep your pimp hand strong.

Did they give you a purple felt hat with a feather in the hatband?;)

Iggy, what are those stocks?

Ringo,

I like it ... a lot! Can take or leave the choice of color, but for what you had when you got this fine old gun, I think this is just about as good a belly gun as anyone could have. If you decide to move it along, let me know!! Seriously, for personal protection at the distances where those mostly take place, this will get it done. Nothing to hang up when you draw, and plenty of oooomph on tap to make a big difference. And I like the grips just fine. Unless they just don't fit your hand, those old Pachs are hard to beat on this size frame. No worries about banging it up, yet it oughta give the miscreant pause, even if only to check out the paint job!!!! But all he'll really see is that big hole in the end of the barrel backed up by six big holes behind it. A single purpose weapon, but if that won't get it done, ain't no need to call on anything else! You need to buy that fellow who spruced it up for you a good lunch!! Like I said, I like it!!!!
