He was one of the greats. If you're so inclined, his biography "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" is a great read.

He was always stand-in bandleader on Letterman whenever Paul Shaffer was off. After he got the diagnosis, Letterman had him on for an entire show as the only guest. He was a laugh riot until the end.

He was a talented guy. Saw him once at a club in Columbus, OH; good show... Definitely died too young. From what I understand, he was a heavy smoker.

Having a rock and roll lifestyle is not known for its longevity!

-Carmelita,
-Roland the headless Thompson gunner
-Hit somebody
-Lawyers guns and money

So many great songs. Surprisingly I'm not a fan of Wear wolf in London

I saw him at the Coconut Grove in Waikiki in 1983. It was just him and his piano, and an excellent show. I've been a fan since.

He's my sister's favorite musician. I told my friend that, and he said, "And she seems so normal when you meet her"!

Remember him? I do. Died several years ago at 56. Most popular and remembered song is probably "Werewolves of London". Don't know why I'm thinking of him now, just am. Shoot me, I'm an oddball.
Strangely, I was also thinking about posting about him.

He was truly one of the great modern American song writers:

Werewolves of London
Excitable Boy
Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner
Mr. Bad Example
