BUT, apparently this mold doesn't require breaking in.
Got a Lyman 358665 4 cavity last spring, but never used it. Now that it has cooled off a little, thought I would pull it out and run a few lbs through it to break it in a little.

Cleaned the packing oil off, lubed it will some Bull Plate sprue lube, smoked the cavities, and off it went. In no time it was dropping bullets from the mold upon opening it. Not even a shake required. Well formed, purty little bullets.

Wish I had set aside more time, I would have cranked out a bunch. Unfortunately, had to stop after a few hundred.

Sometimes it's the little things. :D:D:D:D:D:D

What is really neat is having a mold just work right from the get go. I have some Hollow point molds that work ok and some that are great. I like HP bullets. But the ones I really like are the MP molds They can be used as HPs or solids. This is the time of year I cast and reload...winter

As fredj said... time is sometimes hard to find Going to visit doctors and nurses takes entirely too much time from shooting and reloading LOL

Ha! I hear that, as I am sitting here recovering from surgery. Off from work for a week, but Might just get a few hours casting time in. With my magma caster, that's good for 2-3000.

I managed to get 2 of the gals in my life interested in shooting. No problem finding time to load now. If their ammo pile gets low I get banished to the man cave:P. I haven't taken out the garbage in months.

Wow...I'm jealous. I wish I Shot 'nuff to NEED a Magma. I literally have at least 5 tons of lead. But, I used to make shot when I was shooting a good bit of skeet. All the work associated with that was time consuming. Even though I have 2 or 3 Star sizers I think a magma caster would keep me wayyy busy.

I'm going to be trying out that recovery thing here by the end of next week. Going to finally get my elbow cleaned up. Been dealing with Rheumatoid arthritis for almost 30 years now, lost a lot of range of motion. Broken off bone spur floating around, new bone spurs and build up. So will get a few weeks off for recovery and physical therapy. Hoping to be able to get in some time at my reloading bench with case prep and loading next years supply of handgun ammo.

Next time I head up to Montana I'll stop in & take some of that messy ole heavy lead off you. :-)
I bought the magma years ago when they were less than $500. To be honest, it is a bit slower than casting by hand with a 6cav or even 4cav molds. The diff is you can cast as long as you want without fatigue, just sit or stand & pull the handle. All of my recent mold purchases have been 4-6cav.
With the magma heated up & ready to go, you can run 500-600/hr. Smaller calibers closer to the 600 mark. With a 6cav mold, you are well over 700/hr, but a lot more hand motion & work. I would love one of there 40# bottom pour pots, but not willing to pay that price. The Lee 20# does a good job. Run two & you never have to wait for alloy temps to come up after adding new alloy. Now if I could just squirrel away another 1500# or so, I'll be good for 10yrs or so.
