Washout walk-in theater, Andersen AFB Guam

I know this post will have a limited audience, but who else wants to hear an old dude ramble? At least here I can't tell if you're bored. The Air Force Base on the island of Guam had a regular theater, and a smaller, outdoor and uncovered walk-in theater we called the Washout, because brief rains were frequent. I think it was free.

It was wonderful. Even if the movie wasn't very good, you could look at the tropical moon and stars. I was there from 1976-78.

There was a drive-in featured on American Pickers yesterday, and everything reminds me of something else. Feels good to set it free.

watched many a movie there 73-74. it was always packed because at the time we had close to 100 B-52s, crews and support people there TDY. I was permanent party for 15 months. thanks for the memories. Lee

I was there Jan-June '73 and remember the theater. There was also one on the beach on the end of the runway at U-Tapao. Little interruptions while the Buffs passed overhead were the norm.

I went TDY to Johnston Island back in the late 60s as part of Program 437. We were told not to bother going to the outdoor theater if we couldn't see the stars as that was a sure sign of rain.

There was also one on the beach on the end of the runway at U-Tapao.

I traded shots with a couple local thieves on that beach late one night after they stole the A/C unit from the projection room and were dragging it to the nearby village! We won, A/C recovered.
