This post really isn’t about the gun but the stocks and a craftsman.

I bought this Model 19 snub a while back because the price was right.

After searching for a set of stocks that I thought would be “right” for the gun and not wanting to spend the money on a set of Spegels …

I started digging through the wood pile trying to find a set of stocks that might be an appropriate fit and found a pretty banged up set of cut frame Hurst grips that I only had a couple of bucks in and sort of fit but need a bunch of work.

I reached out to wood working magician and forum member Curt aka 44magget to see if he thought he could save them and if he was willing to take on the work.

We decided on a round butt combat style conversion and what an incredible job he did.

.. the gun will get a bobbed hammer and an action job but the stocks are everything I could have hoped for.

Younggun those stocks are stunning. I would try and find an original hammer or an already bobbed one vs bobbing a target one but - your gun ! A great package.

I'm guessing that a previous owner put that big hole in the front to get at the strain screw but the grain was perfectly set for the repair. Yes, Curt does some amazing work.

Wow!
Talk about turning a sow’s ear to a silk purse.Your grips look amazing and that donor wood had some wonderful figure. Congratulations and well done by Curt.

It is great to salvage these beat up stocks, there are only so many out there. Curt checkered these well worn Hurst grips for me, and they are still the only ones I have come across.

I was thinking, "Oh nice. Another wood working thread". But DANG! That is truly impressive.

Curt strikes again! Stunning!

I’ve only come across this set, which is why I bought them despite the condition and cut frame configuration.

IMHO, we have quite a few "magicians" here on the Forum- and Curt is certainly high on the list! Whether you need new stocks, or you need to have some stocks repaired, or you want some antler stocks, or you want a beautiful custom holster, or you want to have a cardboard or wooden presentation case restored, etc...there is a master craftsman Forum member that can fix you up. I hope that these guys know how much we appreciate having access to their talents!
