I recently acquired a pre-war .38/44 Outdoorsman s/n 39682 with a 5” barrel that shipped in January 1932. We’re still awaiting confirmation in Roy’s Letter of Authenticity but except for lacking the McGivern bead on the front sight (it has a Call gold bead) it bears the characteristics of a “McGivern Model”. See page 180 of the 4th edition of the Supica/Nahas Standard Catalog for a picture of Ed McGivern’s record setting example that resides in the NRA National Firearms Museum.
It came to me with Franzite plastic stag grips . . . and I knew in January 1932 it likely shipped with the silver medallion service grips . . . but if diamond magnas reportedly introduced in 1935-1936 was good enough for Ed McGivern's 1932 exhibition revolver, they would be good enough for mine.
Paul (Weatherby) just happened to have a pair for sale here on the Forum so, needless to say, I had to have them.
Thank you Paul,
Russ
